Wine: Reserve Carménère, 2017. Yali
Appellation: Maipo Valley, Chile
Winetasting with Paul Kalemkiarian & Ed Masciana
Like Malbec in Argentina, Carmenere in Chile is a star. Both grapes originally came from France, where neither did particularly well. There are no definitive answers as to why or how, but both seem to thrive in their new South American homes. The Chileans gratefully took Carmenere as their own, where it is now considered one the best reds in the country. Soft, yet medium tannins and lovely cherry and cocoa are the key here.
