Merlot, 2013. Accoutre
Appellation: Paso Robles, California
Winetasting with Paul Kalemkiarian & Ed Masciana
Our selection is crafted by Broken Earth Winery on its 2,500-acre ranch in Paso Robles. Merlot generally likes a cooler climate. But it loves hillsides, which is where it's cultivated in this vineyard. To ameliorate the heat, the leaves of the vine itself were trained to grow over the grape clusters, thus shielding the grapes from the sun's rays. A solution as simple as it was brilliant. Speaking of brilliant, that may be the best word to describe this selection. The juicy, mouth-filling fruit seems to ooze through your teeth with loads of chewy blueberry, cherry and chocolate. The flavors never let up until the imposing finish that seems to last for days.
